A common misconception surrounding both learner and regular driving licenses is that they are valid for life and do not need to be renewed. However, regular driving licenses in Pakistan are valid for up to 5 years, and learner permits are valid up to 6 months only.

Fortunately, the procedure of driving license renewal online in Punjab Pakistan is now easier than ever before. Thanks to the Pakistan Information Technology Board (PITB) for introducing license renewal feature on the Driving License Issuance and Management System (DLIMS) website in Punjab.
In this blog post, we will discuss the steps on how you can renew both regular driving license, as well as a learner driving license. Let’s explore.
How to Renew a Regular Driving License Online in Punjab, Pakistan
Step 1
Visit the DLIMS website.
Step 2
Navigate to ‘Verify Info’ and click on ‘How to Apply’.
Step 3
After clicking on ‘How to Apply’, a new page will open. Now click on ‘Required Documents for Renewal of License’ option in the dropdown menu.
Here on this page, you can check the:
- Documents you need for license renewal
- License issue fee for various vehicle categories
- Amount of fine to be paid for late renewal
Step 4
After checking the fee and requirements, click on ‘Downloads’ tab on the top right. A page will open. Find the ‘Driving License Renewal Form’ option, and click DOWNLOAD NOW. A form will appear, which you can download in your computer for taking a print out.
Step 5
Take all required documents along with the filled form, and visit the nearest City Traffic Police License Center or Police Khidmat Markaz.
The required documents are:
- Application Form E (the form should be put decently inside a file cover)
- 2 photographs passport size
- A copy of CNIC (ID Card)
- Original Driving License
- Medical Report / Medical Fitness Certificate (only for the candidates above 50 years of age or for applicants of a commercial license)
- A Ticket of relevant License. For example, for a motorcycle, a ticket of 500 is required
The Traffic Police staff will assess your documents for regular license renewal. After this, you will receive your renewed license parcelled to your home address within 14 working days.
How To Renew A Learner’s Driving License Online
In light of the recent steps taken by the government to implement stricter checks on driving and safety protocols, there has been a surge in people getting their learner permits renewed.
The Punjab Government has introduced a license renewing feature in the DLIMS (Driving License Issuance and Management System). After 6 months have passed, renewing a learner permit is a facilitation for people who are not ready for practical driving tests.
To get started, here is the straightforward process:
Step 1
Visit DLIMS Punjab website, and ‘Sign In’ into your account with your e-mail ID and password. If you do not have an account, simply click on ‘Create Account’ to make a new account.
Step 2
Once you have signed in to your account, click on ‘+ Renewal Learner’ option on the top right corner.
Step 3
Enter your CNIC number and Date of Birth, and click ‘Submit’.
Step 4
On the next page, enter the required information. Things you’ll need to enter are:
- CNIC number, Date of Birth, Phone Number, address, district, and province.
- Select the License Category.
- Upload your picture.
- Upload back and front of CNIC.
- Check mark the information authenticity check box and click ‘Submit’.
Step 5
- A payment slip ID will be generated - called the PSID Number. This is the number you will use to pay for renewing learner’s license.
- Pay the fee (rupees 60) through ATM, online banking, or mobile banking (Jazzcash, EasyPaisa, etc.) channels using the PSID number.
- Upon making the payment, your learner’s license will be renewed.
Step 6
To print your renewed learner’s license, click on the print icon in green color, under the Action option.

Will I have to take the driving test for renewing my regular driving license?
If your license has been expired for more than a year, you will likely have to retake the written and driving tests.
